Biogas power plants

Thanks to its long-standing presence in international markets supplying technological components for biogas plant construction, our company has gradually expanded its service portfolio and is now able to offer complete biogas plant installations.

Having professionals with many years of experience and an in-house design and technology department at our disposal, we are in a position to supply various types of biogas plants, including agricultural, waste and biogas plants for wastewater treatment plants.

Our services include both the supply of separate components as well as turnkey installations.

In addition to building new biogas plants, we also reconstruct and modernize them.

We provide the following services:

energy calculation and investment profitability – feasibility study

  • overall technology project preparation – planning approval documentation, building permit documentation, implementation documentation, etc.
  • biogas plant construction
  • automation including online management support and optimization to maximize plant performance
  • commissioning and function testing
  • operator training and delivery to the investor
  • regular warranty and post-warranty service

Biogas plants are technological systems designed for the energy utilization of organic waste and energy crops. The controlled process of anaerobic digestion (fermentation) produces mainly biogas and a fermentation residue called digestate.

Biogas

It is a mixture of gases consisting of two major components:

  • methane 40-75%
  • carbon dioxide 25-55%

and minority components with content below 10%, including

  • hydrogen
  • nitrogen
  • oxygen
  • ammonia
  • sulfane (hydrogen sulphide)
  • water vapour

Methane and hydrogen are particularly valuable energy components in terms of the energy utilization of biogas. Conversely, hydrogen sulphide (sulfane) and ammonia are problematic and need to be removed before use.

Biogas is most commonly used for the following purposes:

  • cogeneration plant combustion for power and heat production (cogeneration)
  • boiler combustion for heat production
  • combustion in cogeneration plants equipped with absorption chillers for power, heat and cold production (trigeneration)

Digestate

Digestate is regarded as a by-product of anaerobic digestion. It can be mechanically separated into two components, fugate (liquid fraction) and separate (solid fraction). Fugate or unseparated digestate can be used as replacement for organic-mineral fertilisers, while the separate is used as manure replacement, or as bedding material or for compost production.

Biogas power plant components

BGP technology consists of 5 main technological components:

A) Reception area – includes all the equipment required for the preparation of the biomass from each substrate. It facilitates material disintegration, sanitization (pasteurization/sterilization) and, in particular, homogenization of the biomass.

B) Fermentation area / digester – fermenters are used to process the biomass through controlled anaerobic digestion to produce biogas.

C) Output – storage in tanks and further processing of the digestate.

D) Gas holder – storage of produced biogas in gas tanks and its subsequent treatment and processing to the required specifications for its use.

E) Energy production – biogas utilization for the production of electricity and heat (cogeneration), including its subsequent application.

Each component of the BPS technology can be customized based on the raw material composition and quantity and the requirements for biogas quality and quantity.
